This position is responsible for transporting deliveries locally and intrastate in accordance with company guidelines and DOT regulations by performing the following duties:

Responsibilities

  • Transports deliveries locally or intrastate in a safe, responsible manner and in accordance with company procedures and applicable DOT regulations.
  • Operate PTO-driven Walinga pneumatic discharge system on trucks to unload product into bins and augers.
  • Troubleshoot loading or unloading issues while on the road.
  • Climb to access hatches, clear blockages, and free product into augers when necessary.
  • Coordinates efficient deliveries by applying knowledge of customer schedules, peak delivery times and alternate routes.
  • Applies knowledge and abilities to safely load and unload deliveries according to size of load and content description.
  • Processes shipment documents neatly and efficiently for each shipment, and manages discrepancy documentation.
  • Obtains and maintains proper delivery authorization and pickup documentation, and submits in a timely manner.
  • Provides good customer service and maintains a professional manner and appearance to enhance the company's image.
  • Performs a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection according to DOT and company standards.
  • Maintains and updates daily Elogs to ensure accurate and compliant records. Reports Elog malfunctions to Compliance Specialist as required.
  • Balances and handles an expense account for each trip by recording all expenses and maintaining all receipts.
  • Provides basic maintenance for vehicle such as maintaining vehicle in a neat manner and performing minor repairs. Reports and schedules maintenance for larger mechanical issues to Company’s truck shop.
  • Maintains company gas credit cards, and valid/current proof of insurance and registration in vehicle.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of vehicle and reports all accidents/damage/malfunctions to management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years driving commercial trucks required.
  • Proven experience operating PTO-driven equipment and Walinga pneumatic discharge systems (or similar bulk feed delivery systems).
  • Experience loading and unloading commercial trailers preferred.
  • Experience working in a feed mill or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Clean driving record and Class A (commercial) license is required.

  • Must exhibit a high attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot load and discharge issues.
  • Must be prompt and consistent in follow-through.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and as a team.
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must take pride in cleanliness and accuracy of work performed.
  • Must be able to read and write in English to keep an accurate electronic log, inspection reports, maintenance reports, maintenance reports, accident/incident reports.
  • Must be able to utilize technology for compliance and communication purposes.

Physical Requirments

  • Must be able to lift and/or move 60 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work safely at elevations of 100 ft.
  • Must be able to access hatches and clear blockages to ensure proper product flow.
  • Must be able to operate a commercial truck and trailer per DOT guidelines.

Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee will be regularly exposed to dusty and noisy conditions.
  • The employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
