This is a mid-level position responsible for strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedure and Work Instructions. Through daily shift process, lead the checks as well as short- and long-term projects. Performs daily process checks to ensure the integrity of each batch of product that is produced.


Include, but are not limited to:

  • Use established procedures to perform laboratory activities to include, but not limited to, analytical testing, and sensory evaluation.
  • Complete and comply with Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
  • Oversee all departmental documentation and ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Keep in consistent contact with QA Manager regarding any discrepancies on production floor.
  • Perform process checks throughout the raw ingredients, production, packaging, sanitation, warehouse, and shipping areas of the company, including pre-operational checks, sanitation verification, calibration verification, label checks, moisture testing, weight checks, and packaging integrity checks.
  • Work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, perform quality inspections of raw ingredients and finished product to determine disposition.
  • Write and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and quality records.
  • Create spreadsheets to keep accurate records and track data.
  • Attend and participate in initial and ongoing training.
  • Provide or assist in training of new and existing QA Technicians along with plant personnel so that they can perform all the functions required of the Quality with minimal guidance and support.
  • Perform audits throughout shifts to assure high quality and food safety requirements are being met and meet SQF and FSMA standards.
  • Maintain effectiveness of quality programs and stimulate continuous improvement by identifying and measuring key results areas
  • Promote a positive proactive environment where input from team members is valued and encouraged.
  • Effectively manage quality based environmental monitoring program in accordance with SQF and FSMA requirements.
  • Always maintain a food-safe and sanitary environment.
  • Monitor and/or complete active corrective action plans for timeliness and accuracy.
  • Write up and track the completion of vendor non-compliance reports.
  • Verify the receipt of lab supplies and track inventory
  • Make decisions concerning quality issues with the product.
  • Maintain Hold and Release Program and follow up on resolutions as needed.
  • Complete accurate data entry and daily production paperwork including AIM, receiving, daily production logs, outgoing, and test result logs.
  • Oversee Critical Control Limits are not exceeded. React to any deviations, as required by the company procedures.
  • Follow Company’s quality assurance procedures and protocols at all times while on duty (eg. Labeling of containers, Inventory control, PM programs)
  • Provide a high level of support to the next customer in line.
  • Reports any food safety issues observed to Manager or Supervisor.
  • Reports any plant security breaches, attempts a product tampering or contamination, or other suspicious behavior observed to Manager or Supervisor.
  • Assist with QA Schedule
  • Other duties as assigned by the QA Manager.


  • A high school diploma is required
  • BS Degree in Agriculture, Food Science, Chemistry or a related field preferred.
  • Background in quality systems
  • Prior experience in a quality lab environment and knowledge of GMPs
  • Previous leadership experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing production line process and testing procedures.
  • HACCP Certification
  • SQF Practitioner


  • Must be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently and as a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint (with an emphasis on Excel)
  • Ability to self-manage and take direction well.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and pressure.

Physical Requirments

  • The employee is frequently continuously required to talk, hear, and stand.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk, climb ladders, type, push, pull, lift, grasp, hear, smell, and work long hours.
  • The work is typically medium. Exerting up to 50lbs of force occasionally or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Position requires close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures as well as to read lab equipment and detect product defects as well as the ability to differentiate color.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at elevations of 100 ft.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee will be regularly exposed to noisy conditions
  • The employee will intermittently be exposed to outdoor weather conditions
  • The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process
