This is a mid-level position responsible for leading, managing and coordinating production employees. Strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions is required.


  • Consistently apply lean manufacturing methodology; provide mentoring and support to the production staff.
  • Ensure complete compliance to prescribed Safety, Quality, and HR policies (e.g. Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, and SQF protocols).
  • Actively participate in audit activities and ongoing efforts to ensure compliance to internal and external standards.
  • Ensure planned efficiency and production numbers are attained, or exceeded, to ensure customer demand can be fulfilled on time. .
  • Schedule facility and ingredients receiving to ensure efficient use of time.
  • Manage supplier source selection and supplier price.
  • Schedule negotiations, measure supplier performance.
  • Monitor and track planned downtime hours and partner with multiple departments to minimize downtime and strategically maximize the use of downtime.
  • Set schedules for production staff; monitors scheduled hours and approves over time.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop leaders; make recommendations for advancement/demotion.
  • Assess and create plans to grow the skills and competencies of frontline employees to meet current and future business requirements.
  • Makes personnel decisions and places personnel in the roles where they will succeed.
  • Report any food safety issue observed to manager/supervisor; correct as appropriate.
  • Report any security breaches, attempts at product tampering or contamination, or other suspicious behavior observed to manager/supervisor; correct as appropriate.
  • Complete and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Daily Routine List (DRL), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
  • Maintain a food-safe sanitary environment at all times.
  • Complete records/quality checks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Escalate any non-conforming product/equipment/material to the appropriate manager/supervisor immediately.
  • Follow Company’s quality assurance procedures and protocols at all times while on duty (eg. Labeling of containers, Inventory Control, PM programs).
  • Promote a positive proactive environment where input from team members is valued and encouraged.
  • Provides back-up support for other roles as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor


  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five (3-5) years related experience in a food manufacturing environment; increasing levels of responsibility preferred.
  • Previous experience in a pet food manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience with SQF, HACCP, ISO-22000, and AIB knowledge.


  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
  • Understand plant operational processes and procedures (e.g. routine and emergency start-up and shutdown practices).
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective communication skills with the ability to influence change and encourage action.
  • Proven team player.
  • Proven leadership and management experience.
  • Ability to motivate, influence, and relate to all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to partner internally and externally to achieve results.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives on tight deadlines; delegate projects accordingly.
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours calls for critical issues.

Physical Requirments

  • Regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently climb ladders and occasionally work at heights of 100 feet.


  • Regularly exposed to work near moving parts/equipment.
  • Regularly exposed to major amounts of dust.
  • Regularly exposed to a moderate to severe noise levels.
  • Intermittently exposed to outdoor/uncontrolled weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
