Overview

This is an entry-level position responsible for developing, administering, and maintaining applicable food safety programs & policies.  Implementation and continuous improvement of food safety focused programs including but not limited to Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs), SQF Food Safety and Quality systems and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze production performance metrics and disseminate routine daily, weekly and monthly status reports to management as needed.
  • Responsible for data collection, creating reports, and data summaries (Med Review, Moisture, SBM & RTFT) (Prod Tons, Mycotoxins)
  • Track and communicate results and create an environment of accountability for results and actions.
  • Escalate any non-conforming product/equipment/material to the appropriate manager/supervisor immediately.
  • Collect and prepare samples for shipment to external labs. Track progress of samples through external labs to ensure complete processing and organize reports generated (as per Analytical Testing Frequency)
  • Audit all daily production paperwork/logs; review all paperwork submitted is complete, correct and signed.
  • Complete and comply Company’s Quality Assurance procedures and protocols: Hazard Analysis procedures (HACCP), Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), Food Safety Plan (FSMA), prerequisite programs, Inventory Control and Preventive Maintenance programs.
  • Assist with the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Quality Programs in the Department and/or Company.
  • Develop and apply internal quality audits and suggest corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure proper document control procedures are followed (Documentation of Production Records/Logs)
  • Maintain accurate and organized records related to quality assurance standards, certifications and calibrations.
  • Provide back-up support for other roles as necessary.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Certification Required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Animal Science, Food Science, or related field required.
  • Laboratory experience preferred
  • QA, Food Safety or GMPs Experience preferred
  • HACCP, ISO or SQF experience preferred
  • HACCP or PCQI Certification preferred

Skills

  • Computer software skills to include Word, Excel, and Outlook are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strengths, and ability to work effectively with a team are required.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, and able to work both independently and as a team.
  • Excellent time management skills; comfortable working with deadlines and under pressure.
  • Position requires demonstrated professionalism with a dedicated work ethic and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with lab instruments (centrifuge, scale, moisture meters).
  • Ability to effectively present scientific information and results in a general manner.
  • Familiar with OSHA, Lab Safety, GHS labeling, Hazardous Waste and Disposal.
  • Familiar with animal nutrition and feed safety risks.
