This is a mid-level position responsible for planning and directing activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial process, materials, and product. Strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedures, and Work instructions is required.


  • Use established procedures to perform laboratory activities to include, but not limited to, analytical testing, and sensory evaluation.
  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Establish program to evaluate precision/accuracy of production equipment, testing, measurement, analytical equipment, and facilities.
  • Oversee all departmental documentation and ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Write, implement, and sustain SOPs, work instructions, and quality records.
  • Implementing and maintaining a training matrix for quality technicians.
  • Write up and track the completion of vendor non-compliance reports.
  • Direct employees engaging in measuring and testing product.
  • Tabulate data relating to materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
  • Assist QA Manager in accountability for HACCP, SQF, FSMA systems and food safety training for the facility. 
  • Ensure compliance and execution of required programs.
  • Effectively maintain quality based environmental monitoring program in accordance with SQF and FSMA requirements.
  • Suggest and implement changes in working conditions; use equipment/technology to increase safety and efficacy.
  • Analyze/Resolve work problems; assist employees in solving work problems.
  • Initiate or suggest plan to motivate workers to achieve goals.
  • Maintain/Approve time records for supervised employees; approve time off requests.
  • Discuss with supervisors to coordinate activities/training of individual in other departments.
  • Supervise/Direct shift leads in coordination and evaluation of their shift; responsible for the overall direction.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies/applicable laws (e.g. interviewing, hiring/training employees, planning, assigning/directing work, and evaluating performance, rewarding/disciplining employees, addressing complains, and resolving problems).
  • Maintain effectiveness of quality programs and stimulate continuous improvement by identifying and measuring key results areas
  • Maintain Hold and Release Program and follow up on resolutions as needed.
  • Monitor and/or complete active corrective action plans for timeliness and accuracy
  • Report any security breaches, attempts at product tampering or contamination, or other suspicious behavior observed to manager/supervisor.
  • Complete and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
  • Maintain a food-safe sanitary environment at all times.
  • Complete records/quality checks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Escalate any non-conforming product/equipment/material to the appropriate Manager immediately.
  • Keep in consistent contact with QA Manager regarding any discrepancies on production floor.
  • Follow Company’s quality assurance procedures and protocols at all times while on duty (eg. Labeling of containers, Inventory Control, PM programs).
  • Promote a positive proactive environment where input from team members is valued and encouraged.
  • Provide back-up support for other roles as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Available off hours on a scheduled or call-in basis, as necessary.
  • Always maintain a food-safe and sanitary environment.


  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology or other closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two to five (2-5) years’ related supervisor experience in quality and food safety.
  • Previous HACCP certification program design and implementation.
  • Thorough technical knowledge of quality & food safety.
  • Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner strongly preferred.
  • Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) strongly preferred.
  • GFSI experience at minimum 2-3 years.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience should be considered.


  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and Access) with emphasis on Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strengths, interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and as a team.
  • Strong ability to collect data, analyze information, define problems, identify solutions and make decisions.
  • Demonstrated professionalism with a dedicated work ethic, ability to prioritize, and oversee multiple projects.

Physical Requirments

  • Regularly communicate with other employees.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb ladders and work at heights of 100 feet.
  • Occasionally stand and use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, controls.
  • Occasionally reach for objects with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities for this job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception to safely carry out the specific essential job tasks.


  • Regularly exposed to work near moving parts/equipment.
  • Regularly exposed to a moderate to severe noise levels.
  • Occasionally exposed to major amounts of dust.
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor/uncontrolled weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
