  • Overview

    This is an entry-level position responsible for the movement and spotting of trucks & trailers to facilitate the needs of the mill in processing material for shipment, transfer or storage. Truck Loading & Transfer Operator is responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand inventory and positioning.

    Responsibilities

    • Operate Yard Trucks in a safe manner during numerous roll-on/roll-off procedures daily involving loaded and empty trailers.
    • Drive and operate vehicle under 5 mph in and around the plant and storage lot/staging area.
    • Communicate using 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, and plant personnel.
    • Must function and interact on a daily basis with plant personnel and comply with plant safety requirements.
    • Responsible for accounting for records involving product & load numbers, gross weights, tare weights, and net weights on log sheets to include source and type of material as well as order details and Quality Checks.
    • Be cognizant of the reality that the operation is a low mileage severe duty function requiring particular attention to preventive maintenance checks and services as well as actual scheduled vehicle maintenance.
    • Must be aware that operations occur on asphalt, concrete and gravel surfaces in a hostile environment often contaminated with material subject to embedding in tires.
    • Security of valuable commodities and the storage area itself are a major area of concern for the Truck Loading & Transfer Operator, occasionally requiring guidance from supervisory personnel regarding disposition.
    • Ensures trailer is clean and shut properly to prevent the loss or spill of product.
    • Responsible to maintain a neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the plant needs.
    • Available for overtime work on a scheduled or call-in basis, as necessary.
    • Other duties and tasks as assigned by Management (to include housekeeping, light maintenance or other required tasks as directed by a Supervisor).

    Qualifications

    • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience loading and unloading commercial trailers preferred.
    • A minimum of 1 year experience driving a transfer vehicle and working in a feed mill or manufacturing environment preferred.
    • Class A (commercial) license preferred.
