Overview

This is a mid-level level position that will assist in the development of new products supporting the Director of Product Development.  This position will work with a team to develop new formulas, oversee the implementation of R&D test runs, collect and manage data, update Product Development documents, and drive cross-functional teams to launch new products.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilize formulation software to create and optimize dry pet food and treat formulations.
  • Apply knowledge of ingredient composition and processing capability to develop innovative product solutions that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the execution and supervision of R&D test runs. Follow-up with other departments and personnel to ensure preparation work has been completed for R&D test runs. Collect data and record observations during R&D test runs.  Organize and summarize all data following the runs.
  • Follow new product through to launch.
  • Update ingredient database.
  • Create and update Product Information Sheets for sales presentation and label/artwork generation.
  • Work with team to manage palatability testing schedule and shelf life analysis with limited direction.
  • Update and maintain customer specification databases.
  • Assist in qualifying new ingredients and new vendors.
  • Assist in the activation of new formulas.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing cost reduction ideas for product lines and factories.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to execute product development plans and on-going projects.
  • Set expectations, track/communicate results, and create an environment of accountability for results and actions.
  • Participate in a high quality team environment through effective teamwork and self-management with a positive attitude.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor that reflects the Company’s commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and respect for individuals.
  • Promote a positive proactive environment where input from team members is valued and encouraged.
  • Work with limited direction and take initiative for tasks.
  • Oversee ongoing projects, studies, and databases, as necessary.
  • Provide back-up support for other roles, as necessary.
  • May require overnight travel.
  • Requires occasional night shift and/or weekend shift for special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, animal science, or other closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years in a feed or food production environment preferred.
