Western Milling, a Commercial Feed Manufacturer, is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong drive and excellent relationship building, customer service and recordkeeping skills for the position of Safety Specialist.
Recordkeeping: Manage the Company’s SDS and other safety related data tracking including but not limited to incident management and learning plans.
Track and enter incidents/accidents, safety inspections and all safety training via Alchemy/Velocity EHS. Follow up on completion of corrective actions assigned to mgrs. by EHS Mgr.
Order safety supplies and PPE as directed by EHS Mgr.
Attend and support PPF and Goshen Mill safety committees to include taking and distributing (post meeting) minutes.
Investigation and Root Cause Analysis Reporting (as directed by EHS Mgr): Partner with EHS management to investigate incidents, including near misses, identify root causes and ensure that corrective actions are completed.
Track new hires and temporary employees and ensure they have completed safety orientations respective to their position/department.
Repair Reporting for Safety Items: Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure work orders are being submitted for any safety items.
Safety Audit/Inspection Assistance: Participate in audits conducted by the EHS Mgr. Follow up on items flagged in the audit to confirm that they have been completed as directed by the Safety Manager or HR Director.
Compliance: Support compliance with OSHA grain handling and general industry regulations, along with federal, state and local laws and regulations and Company specific policies.
Required Posting Compliance: Ensure that all required signs and postings are complete and legible. Assist with ordering safety signs and equipment as needed.
Management General Assistance: Provide support to EHS Team on a variety of safety related projects.
Hazard Identification and Mitigation (as directed by EHS Mgr): Assist with delivery and coordination of mitigation for hazards associated with each job, and work with front line supervisors to ensure all employees are aware of associated hazards.
Policy Development: Responsible for drafting and maintaining several key safety policies/memos (not programs) and procedures and assisting in development, maintenance and auditing policies as identified, needed and at least annually.
Coordinate annual audiometric testing for all production employees as directed by EHS Mgr.
Prepare training materials and attend safety training as directed by EHS Mgr to strengthen relationships with employees and mgrs.
Experience and success in a role that required a high level of detail orientation, self-drive and motivation, independent thinking and trustworthiness.
Familiarity with equipment and production processes.
A minimum of 2+ years in a Safety role preferred.
Must have valid driver’s license.
Experience in a grain handling facility preferred, but not required.
