Overview

This is a mid-level position responsible for creating, implementing and maintaining the Company’s Quality Assurance programs.

Responsibilities

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • In partnership with the Company’s QA committee, has the authority and responsibility for defining and implementing the appropriate Quality Assurance programs for the Company’s feed mill operations.
  • Evaluate current company processes and develops a plan to eliminate holes in existing system or overhaul and implement new processes where feasible.
  • Partner with existing management to develop training plans, update SOPs and create a culture of continuous improvement related to quality.
  • Deliver quality related training.
  • Maintain records related to quality assurance standards and certifications.
  • Manage FSMA compliance and implement standards.
  • Develop and disseminate routine weekly and daily status reports to management as needed.
  • Work closely with the Company’s complaint resolution team to investigate, document and resolve quality issues.
  • Train employees across multiple sites on fundamentals of the new inventory management process and works with production management to ensure that the process is followed uniformly at all facilities.
  • Train production personnel on uniform processes for receiving product into warehouses, performing cycle counts and monthly inventory, and recording shipment of product.
  • Educate employees on the back-end accounting processes associated with product movement so that they get a global picture and understand the "why" behind the processes.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability necessary to perform this job successfully:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, or other closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience in feed mill operations and/or quality assurance management. Experience managing a team of quality assurance technicians preferred.
  • Management of a high volume of inventory throughout multiple sites.
  • Experience with pallet inventory is a must.
  • Experience with bulk inventory is preferred.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of state-of-the-art planning systems.
  • Experience with setting up electronic data base for inventory is preferred.
  • Experience working in a family owned environment, although not required, is of great value/importance.
  • HACCP, ISO, SQF or other food safety certification required.
  • Food safety audit experience required.

  • Develop and train staff on fundamentals and processes related to quality assurance.
  • Must be self-motivated and flexible.
  • Must be highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Good listener, reads people well.
  • Able to effectively build consensus and generate buy in.
  • Strong project management skills are a must.
