Overview

This is a senior-level position responsible for leading Food Safety, Quality and Sanitation programs. Strict compliance with the facility’s Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedures, and work Instructions are required.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure all Food safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Monitor, verify, and document associated adherence to government regulations.
  • Modify, implement, and maintain the HACCP, SSOP, FSMA, and SQF based inspection programs to comply with changing regulations and codes.
  • Ensure finished product conforms to customer product and label specifications.
  • Interact with customers and their agents for product showings, plant tours, and audits.
  • Direct, plan, and implement traceability testing and monitoring.
  • Responsible for vendor management related to food safety.
  • Liaison to customers and regulatory agencies as it relates to food safety.
  • Respond to customer complaints.
  • Ensure the facility meets all required food safety laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Accountable for HACCP, SQF, FSMA and Food Safety training for the facility to ensure compliance and execution of required programs
  • Controls (follows up) with employees’ training and professional development. Contributes to the creation and functioning of the united and well trained team.
  • Complete and comply with the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), Daily Routine List (DRL), HACCP procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Compliance.
  • Coordinate with production to maintain a food-safe sanitary environment at all times.
  • Complete records/quality checks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Escalate any non-conforming product/equipment/material to the appropriate manager/supervisor immediately.
  • Follow Company’s quality assurance procedures and protocols at all times while on duty (eg. Labeling of containers, Inventory Control, PM programs).
  • Promote a positive proactive environment where input from team members is valued and encouraged.
  • Responsible for morals and ethics.
  • Create a “no fear” environment of trust, teamwork, and mutual respect.
  • Help set quality control standards.
  • Conduct research and recommend appropriate changes in methods and procedures.
  • Investigate causes of failed tests, faulty work, inspection holds, and takes proper corrective action.
  • Participate in job description preparation, presentation, and approval process.
  • Ensure effective usage of labor resources and assets.
  • Report/correct any food safety issues observed.
  • Report/correct any plant security breaches, attempts at product tampering or contamination, or other suspicious behavior.
  • Provide back-up support for other roles as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill or ability necessary to perform this job successfully:

  • Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, or other closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Five to seven (5-7) years’ experience in quality and food safety.
    • Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Practitioner strongly preferred.
    • Previous HACCP certification program design and implementation preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Beginning to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, and Access).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strengths and ability to work effectively with a team.
    • Thorough technical knowledge of quality & Food Safety.
    • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and as a team.
    • Strong ability to collect data, analyze information, define problems, identify solutions, and make decisions.
    • Demonstrated professionalism with a dedicated work ethic and ability to prioritize/manage multiple projects.
